The Boys Next Door
April 8 through 24, 2016
The Hendersonville Performing Arts Company presents The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffin.  The Boys Next Door will run from April 8th through April 24th with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 2:00 p.m.  The shows takes place in a New England City, where four mentally handicapped men live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly “burned out” young social worker named Jack Norman, played by Bryan Lelek.  Norman, portrayed by Ryan DeMoville, who works at a doughnut shop and is unable to resist the lure of the sweet pastries, takes great pride in the huge bundle of keys that dangles from his waist. Bakari Jamal King, stars as Lucien P. Smith, who has the mind of a five year old but imagines that he is able to read and comprehend the weighty books he lugs about.  Arnold, played by Aaron Echols, is the ringleader of the group and is hyperactive, a compulsive chatterer, who suffers from deep seated insecurities and a persecution complex; while Barry, which is played by Sam Kell, is a brilliant schizophrenic who is devastated by the unfeeling rejection of his brutal father (Darrell Pace), fantasizes that he is a golf pro.  Mingled with scenes from the daily lives of these four, where “little things” sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy when, with touching effectiveness, we are reminded that the handicapped like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find some meaning and purpose in the brief time that they, like their more fortunate brothers, are allotted on this earth.  The Hendersonville Performing Arts Company is located in the City Square Shopping Center, 260 West Main St., Suite 204, Hendersonville.  For reservations please visit our website at www.hpactn.com  or call the theatre at 615-826-6037.
