Steeple Players Invites Everyone to “Cut Footloose!”
January 29 - February 14, 2010

It’s time to lose your blues at Steeple Players Theatre in Hendersonville, where the pop musical Footloose cuts loose January 29 through February 14.

Based on the 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon, Steeple Players production stars an energetic cast of 40 local actors, singers, and dancers. With rocking rhythm of it's Oscar and Tony nominated top 40 score and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.

Footloose follows the story of Ren McCormick. When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

At Steeple Players, Beech High School student Chase McCumber plays the rebellious Ren, while Hendersonville High School’s Katie Stewart fires up the stage as Ariel, the minister’s beautiful but troubled teenage daughter. Tate Albert and Diann Hiney star as the fire and brimstone Reverend Moore and his compassionate wife Vi. Volunteer State student Kamen Sims plays Ren’s buddy Willard, the cowboy with two left feet, and MTSU’s Sarah Shepherd is his bubble-headed sweetheart Rusty. Julian Kohann, a student at John Paul II, is featured as Ariel’s dangerous boyfriend Chuck.

Footloose has been adapted to the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, with music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. In addition to an Oscar nod for best musical score, the film (and subsequent stage version) featured an unprecedented number of top forty hits including Kenny Loggins’ “I’m Free (Heaven Helps the Man)” and the title track, Sammy Hager’s “The Girl Gets Around,” Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding On for a Hero,” “Almost Paradise,” “Somebody’s Eyes” and the hit single “Let’s Hear it for the Boy.”

Footloose show times are Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for children under 12. Tickets are available by calling the Steeple Players’ box office at 615/826-6037.

Footloose contains language and subject matter that may not be suitable for all ages and parental guidance is recommended.

Steeple Players is a 501(c)3 non-profit community theatre located at 260 West Main Street in the City Square Shopping Center in Hendersonville Tennessee. It has presented family-oriented theatre to the local and surrounding communities for over a decade.

Donors Choose is a national, non-profit organization designed to help teachers get needed supplies for their classrooms.  Teachers submit proposals to Donors Choose, and Donors Choose reviews the requests and places them on their web site.  At this point, any individual in the world can search the database for proposals they would like to fund in whole or in part.

Once the project is fully funded, Donors Choose ships the requested supplies directly to the teacher.  The teacher sends a thank-you letter [through Donors Choose] to the donor who completed the funding on his/her proposal.  In addition, the teacher sends thank-you letters from each student along with photos of the class using the donated supplies.

It's actually quite fun to see how this works!

Donors Choose has just opened their program to teachers in Tennessee.  We encourage teachers in Hendersonville and surrounding areas to submit proposals to Donors Choose!
